THE DPO 2025: Expectations and challenges ahead

The demand for highly specialised yet widely skilled and competent DPOs has been constantly increasing ever since the role was created in 2018. In the next couple of years, the role of the DPO is set to face more challenges with the development of technology and the changes in regulation that have already started to stem from it. To keep up with the digitalisation of the world, DPOs will have to not only undertake constant training, but also find ways to ensure compliance while maintaining public trust and balancing political and ethical issues with commercial targets.
